Embedded Professionals at the Library

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Many of us have heard the concept embedded or community librarians. These librarians provide services to target audiences off-site, specifically where people live, work or play. In fact, many of us have already implemented a community librarian model and are seeing a lot of success with this approach. But, what about embedded professionals in our space, such as social workers in the library, lawyers in the library, nurses in the library, small business mentors in the library? These programs have been successful too. However, while we are happy to be embedded in other agencies, organizations, and groups, we have concerns about professionals in our library. A panel of librarians and practitioners of the "in the library" programs will talk about the pros and cons of these programs and whether it's right for your library and our profession. COMBINED WITH Patrons say they are computer illiterate. They need assistance with electronic resumes. Can't find reliable, qualified volunteers in your community to provide computer instruction? Quit spinning your wheels and listen to our story. Due to large demand and lack of resources, libraries need a cost-effective way to bridge the digital divide in their communities and increase information literacy programming. Come and learn how to recruit a full-time volunteer who can dedicate all their time to digital literacy and job skills training. Attend this session to see if Americorps is your solution.
