Open Educational Resources: Reducing Textbook Costs in Oregon and Building Partnerships
Oregon is building momentum on the issue of textbook cost reduction with the implementation of Open Education Resources (OER). Oregon community colleges hired an OER coordinator, and Oregon House Bill 2871 provides OER funding for Oregon universities and community colleges. In addition, Open Oregon has funded OER projects that partner high school, community college, and university faculty to create OER courses. This session will look at how community college librarians facilitate the integration of OER by collaborating with faculty and other institutions. This session will also explore more ways librarians can increase the textbook savings goodness while strengthening relationships between K-12, community college, and university partners. Join this session to brainstorm ways that OER may become a bridge to accessible, affordable education from kindergarten to college graduation.

We said, they said: Sharing our stories with vendors
Technical services departments rely on vendors to facilitate acquisitions, reveal our collections, and bring content to our communities. Telling our story - our wishes, needs and expectations - and listening to the vendor story in turn is a fundamental aspect of library management. How can we create the best working relationship free of disappointments and unfilled assumptions? Join librarians and vendors as we explore the best methods of building rapport, finding support and communicating with each other. The discussion will use two technical services projects as examples: UO's EDI invoicing project and Hillsboro Public Library's shelf-ready project.

Building a Local Ebook Collection
The Library Writers Project is a collection development and programming initiative by the Multnomah County Library to provide an avenue for local authors to get their self-published e-books into the library collection. Telling Stories on the Little Screen: Using Traditional and New Media to Get It Done
Public access television and community radio stations provide free or low-cost facilities to produce broadcast content. A community partnership between the Ashland Branch Library and the Ashland Mystery Readers Group planned, produced and broadcast two tv interview series on local public access television from 2003-2012. In 2015, a partnership between JCLS and the Southern Oregon Historical Society was expanded to broadcast local history content on public access television. This program describes how you can create and distribute content, and build community awareness for your programs in fun and relatively inexpensive ways.

Embedded Professionals at the Library
Many of us have heard the concept embedded or community librarians. These librarians provide services to target audiences off-site, specifically where people live, work or play. In fact, many of us have already implemented a community librarian model and are seeing a lot of success with this approach. But, what about embedded professionals in our space, such as social workers in the library, lawyers in the library, nurses in the library, small business mentors in the library? These programs have been successful too. However, while we are happy to be embedded in other agencies, organizations, and groups, we have concerns about professionals in our library. A panel of librarians and practitioners of the "in the library" programs will talk about the pros and cons of these programs and whether it's right for your library and our profession. COMBINED WITH Patrons say they are computer illiterate. They need assistance with electronic resumes. Can't find reliable, qualified volunteers in your community to provide computer instruction? Quit spinning your wheels and listen to our story. Due to large demand and lack of resources, libraries need a cost-effective way to bridge the digital divide in their communities and increase information literacy programming. Come and learn how to recruit a full-time volunteer who can dedicate all their time to digital literacy and job skills training. Attend this session to see if Americorps is your solution.
